Communication
We assess, diagnose and treat communication difficulties across the lifespan, from birth through to adulthood.
This covers areas including:
- Play and social skills
- Comprehension (understanding) and expressive (using) language
- Articulation and phonology (speech)
- Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
- Cognitive impairment
- Voice disorders
What is AAC?

AAC or augmentative and alternative communication, is an umbrella term for communication devices (e.g. eye gaze), systems (e.g. speech-generating applications, such as Proloquo2Go or SimPODD), strategies and tools (e.g. Keyword signs, AUSLAN) that replace or support natural speech. These tools support a person who has difficulty communicating using speech.
There are many reasons why someone would need to use AAC. Natural speech may have never developed from a young age due to a genetic disability (e.g. SATB2 Associated Syndrome). Or someone may have acquired a brain injury, impacting their ability to speak.
Our team is passionate about using AAC systems and exploring the right options for our families. We are happy to answer any questions you might have.
